Flag of Our Heroes

For Those Who Couldn't Make the Trip

It is Honor Flight’s goal to take every veteran to Washington DC, to see their memorials.  Unfortunately, many veterans die on our waiting list before they can make the trip.  We honor those veterans and their families with the “Flags of Our Heroes” program.  It is our desire to show the respect so richly deserved to the veterans that could not make the trip to Washington DC with their fellow veterans to see their memorials.

Veterans Honor Flight of ND/MN invites families to submit the name of the veteran, his/her branch of service and a 5x7 or 8x10 photo of the veteran, preferably in uniform.  Your veteran’s photo will be taken on the next Honor Flight to Washington DC.  An American flag and the photo will be placed in front of the appropriate memorial and a photo will be taken.

Flags of Our Heroes Form

After the trip, the family will receive an 8x10 color photo along with a certificate from Veterans Honor Flight of ND/MN honoring the veteran.  The photo taken to Washington DC will also be returned to the family after the trip.  There is no charge for this service.  This is Veterans Honor Flight of ND/MN’s way of showing our respect and appreciation to your family member.  In case of bad weather, the photo may be postponed.

Specific items we need:

  • A completed and signed application.
  • A 5x7 or 8x10 photo of the veteran, preferably while in the service.  Black and white or color will work.  You can scan the photo and email it to us. Use a 300 dpi scan density to ensure that the scan results in a decent picture.
